help-portrait 2013 | december 7, 2013

Wow, where in the world has 2013 gone?? It’s already the end of November! Crazy, right?! The best part about that though is that it means it’s time for us to kick into this year’s Help-Portrait event! If you’re reading this and wondering what in the world I’m talking about, read through the below description to get a quick idea…

A Picture Is Worth. That’s the catch phrase for Help-Portrait. If you’ve read this blog for a little while now, or if you follow me on Twitter, at some point you’ve heard me talk about Help-Portrait. It’s truly one of my favorite days of the year, and it’s one of the biggest blessings in my career as a photographer. I’m so excited about this, and I hope you are too! If you’ve been part of H-P during one of the previous four years, you know what I’m talking about. Last year, were able to give away approximately 150 portraits – printed & framed – to some 200 families & individuals in Anderson, SC. That’s right – GIVE AWAY. FOR FREE. However, more than that, we were able to give hope and joy to those who need it most through using the gifts we’ve been given. And those gifts are not only as photographers. Some of those gifts included serving through hair/makeup, greeting people at the door, providing lunch, and the list goes on.

Well, our 2013 event on Saturday December 7 is less than two weeks away! Hopefully by now you’re saying to yourself something along the lines of, “Where do I sign up?!” If so, we’d really love for you to be part of things with us!!

Here are the details for this year’s event in Anderson, SC:

Date:  Saturday, December 7, 2013

Location:  The LOT Project – Anderson, SC

Time:  11:00am – 5:00pm (setup will begin at 9:00am)

There will be several roles in which you can help. Volunteer roles include photographers, image editors, greeters/welcome/host staff, hair/makeup artists, refreshment servers, printing & framing, a variety of assistants, and just general volunteers willing to serve in whatever capacity we need. And you don’t necessarily have to be a professional in your desired area to volunteer! Interested? Have questions? Just leave a comment at the bottom of this post or contact me through the “Contact” tab at the top and I’ll be in touch with you ASAP. Also, if you know someone who you think would love to have a portrait of themselves or their family who wouldn’t otherwise be able to afford one, please tell them about Help-Portrait and that we’d be honored if they’d come see us on Saturday Dec. 7. If they have computer access or transportation to get themselves to The LOT Project building, that’s great; just forward them this blog link or give them the details. If not, I’d love to see YOU show up at Help-Portrait WITH THEM. Maybe you could serve someone you know by just providing them with the transportation necessary and spending the day with them. For example, do you know a single mom who’s making ends meet but doesn’t have the extra cash to have updated family portraits of the kids she so desperately works to provide for?? Offer to bring them by and then take them out to lunch! What a wonderful Christmas gift to give someone who NEEDS to be loved on!

I can honestly say that doing Help-Portrait each of the last four years has been one of the highlights of my photography career. I am so excited to be part of this again this year and I really hope you’ll join us!

Also, if you’re new to the whole Help-Portrait idea, check out the video below from last year of my friend, Jackie. Her story of how Help-Portrait changed her is reason alone to consider volunteering!
